Brad Pitt: Hopes For Marriage Equality Before His Wedding

Brad Pitt waves to fans at the premiere of Killing Them Softly at the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday (May 22) in Cannes, France.

The 48-year-old actor talked about violence and the political undertone in his new gangster movie and a bit about his marriage plans to Angelina Jolie at the press conference after its premiere at the film festival.

"I certainly felt on reading the script that this was making a commentary. At the time, people were at the apex of the mortgage loan debacle, people were leaving their homes. I felt I was reading a gangster film and then … it coalesced that this microcosm was saying something about the macro-world." he commented on the movie set during 2008 presidential election and economic crisis.

"It speaks more to our great toxic divide, where it is more about the party winning the argument than the issues themselves … In this election year, we're going to see more negative adverts than ever before and I don't want this film to be seen in any way as part of that. I think it's going to be rather ugly." He adds.

On whether he has set a wedding date, he responds "We have no date. We actually really, truly have no date. It’s something that makes sense to us … and we’re still hoping we figure out marriage equality in the States before then, before that date."

Killing Them Softly is expected to be release on September 21, 2012.
