The Vampire Diaries actor has devoted himself to eco-friendly causes for quite some time. Previously working with the Natural Resources Defense Council to support the California’s shark fin bill, he currently runs his own organization, the Ian Sommerhalder Foundation. The IS Foundation works on the preservation of wildlife and the environment throughout the world.
For his first official task as Goodwill Ambassador, the 33-year-old actor will host the World Environmental Day event with fellow U.N. Ambassadors Gisele Bundchen and Don Cheadle.
"Who knew being an environmental warrior could be so cool?" Ian asks.
The United Nations Environment Programme is an international organization that coordinates U.N. environmental activities, assisting developing countries in implementing environmentally sound policies and practices.
