Julianne Moore Calls For Boy Scouts Leaders To Modernise Discriminatory

Julianne Moore, who was recently confirmed to star in a remake of the 1976 horror film Carrie, was spotted arriving at her hotel on Friday (May 11) in New York City.

The 51-year-old actress and humanitarian has called on Boy Scouts of America officials in Ohio to reinstate a local mother who was ousted as a team leader because she’s gay.

The Kids Are All Right star has thrown her support behind Jennifer Tyrrell, who was removed from her role as the head of her son’s Cub Scout troop because of her sexual orientation last month.

Tyrrell subsequently launched an online petition calling for change in the organisation’s discriminatory policies to better embrace gay youths and community leaders and it soon boasted more than 300,000 signatures.

The cause also caught the attention of a slew of celebrities including Kelly Osbourne, Benicio Del Toro, Josh Hutcherson and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and now Julianne has added her voice to the campaign ahead of America’s Mother’s Day holiday on Sunday.

In a post on her Twitter, Julianne writes, “Dear @boyscouts, on Mother’s Day I support Jennifer and all moms, gay and straight! #scoutsforall change.org/scouts”.
